Traditions Made Modern, which is a lifestyle collection that reflects the meeting and melding of the diverse cultures that have resided or passed through New Mexico over the past 400 years. The rugs of this collection were inspired by the Pueblo pottery and Navajo textiles from the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art. The rugs have a graphic clarity and rhythmic coverage of field that are at ease in modern settings as well as rustic folkschemes. Shades of cream, taupe, red and black remain true to the original natural dyes used by tribal artisans. Olive, sage and dusky blue hues allude to landscapes and endow the rugs with a feeling of timelessness. Crafted with 100% wool, the tweeded, richly hued surface is the result of a mixture of yarns chosen to give service and pleasure for years to come. Woven on a Wilcom machine using a loop/tip shear construction, then hand-finished, each rug suggests the surface depth of a hand-crafted artifact.
